A much-loved community, Canterbury is one of West Vancouver’s most popular neighbourhoods. Home to a variety of unique houses you won’t find anywhere else in the area, many properties back onto the beautiful greenery of the Pacific Northwest. Canterbury is also located close to a variety of parks and schools, although remains a quiet community, giving residents the peace and tranquility that’s so hard to find in so many other neighbourhoods.
Canterbury is located in the foothills of Cypress Mountain, offering residents panoramic and unobstructed views of the city and of English Bay. Nearby neighbourhoods include Chartwell, British Properties (The Properties), Glenmore, Cypress and Park Royal.
The majority of Canterbury residents are homeowners (88%), with just 12% renting. Many households are occupied by couples or families, with 20% of residents under the age of 19, 15% between 20 and 29, 20% between 30 and 49, and 45% over the age of 50. Approximately 61% of Canterbury residents are married.

Canterbury is located nearby to several parks, including Douglas Woodward Park, offering lots of great walking trails to explore, and Mahon Park, which is home to a fantastic picnic area, a sports field, and a baseball diamond. Lighthouse Park is also located nearby to the Canterbury neighbourhood, a 190-acre park that is almost completely covered in virgin rainforest and home to the Point Atkinson Lighthouse.
The Canterbury neighbourhood is home to some of West Vancouver’s best restaurants, including The Salmon House, restaurant, which serves award-winning dishes as well as some of the world’s best wines. Canterbury is just a short distance away from West Vancouver’s largest shopping up, Park Royal, offering over 275 shops and services, from home furnishings stores like Anthropologieand Home Depot, to fashion and shoe stores, like Banana Republic, Roots and Vans. In late 2004, The Village was opened as an expansion of Park Royal South, and boasts Vancouver’s first Salomon store, the first Pinkberry frozen yoghurt shop in Canada, and the best Whole Foods Market in North America, among other stores.
A popular neighbourhood for families, Canterbury is located nearby to a variety of elementary and secondary schools, including Chartwell Elementary,, which provides children with extracurricular activities like a leadership club, environmental club, and various sports clubs, and Sentinel Secondary, which offers a variety of programming options including French immersion, AP classes and apprenticeships. Other nearby schools include Ridgeview Elementary, Ecole Pauline Johnson Elementary, Hollyburn Elementary,and West Vancouver Secondary.
Many residents in Canterbury own cars, since it’s easy and stress free to get around in this neighbourhood. Buses also run frequently and regularly in Canterbury, and if you cycle, the area is also home to a few bike lanes.
